Power yoga is popular and athletic. It is the definition of modern yoga. Power yoga classes are active and rabid. Generally the movements in power yoga is flowing from one posture to another posture continuously in fast rhythm on breathing. This class mostly favored by people who always have fast life style and have tendencies to want everything to be quick!

In history of Yoga, we heard that Power Yoga was first invented in the 80’s by American named Beryl Bender and Bryan Kest. Both are Ashtanga practitioners who modified Ashtanga practice to become a stretching and strengthening practice for athletes. So then, the stretches can be used for warming the body before running, cycling or tennis. It was known as “Yoga for athletes” before finally called “Power Yoga”. Nowaday, power yoga is being used as a general term of yoga that emphasizing serious workout, but also the term of “power yoga” become “everything and anything”.

Power Yoga in Umah Shakti emphasize building up fire element in the body using flow of movements and breathe. This way the goal of the practice is to tone the muscle and create deeper stretch and upgrade flexibility when the body is “heated up”. Also induce peaceful in the mind, rejuvenate and detoxify the body through sweat.

Power yoga is open for everyone to try out! It is not impossible for a beginner to join Power Yoga class. However, Power Yoga are recommended for those who has practiced yoga at few months. Practitioners at least know how to regulate their breath and know their body limitation, so they might take rest when needed.

If you are beginner and you jump into Power Yoga class, you must not take any pressure to yourself and take the practice as a fun body exploration. The teacher will be very happy to help and assist during class.
